2013 SA Family Photographer of the Year | Adelaide Newborn Baby & Family Photographer

This week has been an absolute blur of happy-bizarre-awesome-craziness. It’s been fun, it’s been emotional, and it’s been overwhelming…in a good way, though. It’s been SAPPA week – the annual judging of the AIPP South Australian Professional Photography Awards. It is with much excitement that I can share that I was not only a finalist (top 3) in both the Portrait and Family Categories, but I also took out the Family Category and was Awarded the title of 2013 South Australian Family Photographer of the Year. As a newborn, baby and family photographer, I can tell you this was the icing on the cake of what has been an amazing couple of years with my beautiful clients!!

The awards night was 2 nights ago, and I’m still in shock –  it hasn’t quite sunk in yet!!!!!!

If you’ve not heard of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP), it’s the leading membership body for photographers across Australia, and I’ve been a proud member for the last couple of years now.

Each year when SAPPA rolls around, photographers across the state enter a portfolio of images to be judged by a panel of judges. The images are scored individually with scores ranging between 50 – 100. To be awarded a Silver Award, you must at least score an 80; a Silver with Distinction is worth at least 85 points; a Gold must receive a minimum of 90, and a Gold with Distinction is between 95-100 points. Receiving a Silver Award is not an easy feat…and to receive a Silver with Distinction, Gold, or Gold with Distinction is even harder. There are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of prints entered, and to give you an idea of how hard it is to achive a top award, there was only one solitary Gold with Distinction awarded; 13 Gold; 31 Silver with Distinction; and 146 Silver Awards handed out at the 2013 Awards.

I’m absolutely thrilled to report that out of 8 prints entered (4 in the Portrait Category, and 4 in the Family Category), I received a Gold (90), Silver with Distinction (88) and four Silver Awards (84, 84, 81 and 80). The award judging was hard, and the standard of work was incredible. The community of South Australian photographers should be so incredibly proud of the quality of work being produced across all categories. It’s amazing.

A couple of quick thank you’s, if I may! I would be lost without my family and friends, who know the hours of work and the sacrifices we’ve made to enable my business to grow, and continually support and believe in me. I am so grateful to have a husband who, when I first decided to become a professional photographer, didn’t just pat me on the head and say “yes dear, whatever you like dear“…instead, he said “yes dear, let’s go get ’em, I’m right behind you!“. I also owe a lot of thanks to my Mum, who helps us in so many ways, and many of them are in order for me to achieve my photography dreams. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

And last but not least, thank you to all of the amazing people I photograph. Thank you for allowing me into your lives, and for allowing me to create something beautiful for you.

Without further ado, my SAPPA prints for 2013…
